Does VIZYUL require a tableau desktop license?

No.  VIZYUL was designed to be independent of tableau desktop and server in order to deliver productivity to a much wider audience.

Does VIZYUL analyze my data?

No.  VIZYUL is not a data visualization or business intelligence tool.  VIZYUL is a productivity tool for the tableau community.  VIZYUL does not access, use or analyze your data; Tableau already does a phenomenal job at that.  VIZYUL analyzes the configuration and design characteristics of your workbooks.

Does VIZYUL require tableau server?

No. VIZYUL analyzes tableau workbooks independent of both tableau desktop and server.

Does VIZYUL analyze workbooks published to tableau server?

Not in the Beta release.  However, the second GA release will include this capability.

Since tableau is great at helping me see and understand my data, why do I need VIZYUL?

Great question!  To answer, consider the following challenges.

FOR TABLEAU AUTHORS

The information management team has delivered 117 awesome dashboards across 100 workbooks using tableau desktop.  In an effort to optimize the current set of dashboards, the team has been asked to remove all unused fields from existing workbooks and identify how many of the 100 workbooks contain connections to data sources located on local computers.  How would the team go about answering these questions?  Maybe head over to Starbucks, get charged up and go at it for 10 to 12 hours a day until the job is done?  With VIZYUL, the team could generate a report of exactly how much work needs to be done to clean up the workbooks in seconds.

FOR TABLEAU ADMINISTRATORS

Company ABC has 500 workbooks and is planning a tableau server upgrade strategy.  In order to avoid unintended version compatability issues, the tableau administration team needs to know how many of the 500 workbooks are version 8.0 or below.  In addition, administrators need to know how workbooks contain connections to corporate SQL Servers.  How would the administrators answer these questions?  Maybe interview the tableau authors that created the workbooks?  Maybe hire consultants to review each workbook?  Well, with VIZYUL the tableau administrators could answer questions like these and many many more in seconds with VIZYUL.

Can I run VIZYUL on my MAC?

Currently VIZYUL only supports Windows 7 & 8 32 and 64 bit platforms.
